Nearly 250 industry leaders attended the 4th Annual Pet Industry Leadership Conference in San Antonio, Texas. The conference featured world-class speakers, unmatched networking opportunities, and engaging social events.

Economist Chris Kuehl kicked off this year’s conference with an insightful and often comedic review of the industry’s current economic trends, followed by an inspiring and deeply personal keynote by best-selling author Neil Pasricha on happiness and the depths of human potential.

Legendary baseball manager Tony La Russa addressed the group about his work with his Animal Rescue Foundation (ARF) and their Pets and Vets program, and Washington Insider Jeff Bush provided insights on what’s going on in our nation’s capital and the Trump administration policies.

Breakout sessions provided deeper dives into topics including APPA’s Pet Spending Generational report delivered by Julie Springer, and the results of a pet care community perceptions study by Jennifer Valenzuela of LRW, which revealed a messaging strategy to better align the pet care community and improve the image of the industry.  MAPP Compliance is still a very hot topic, and attendees learned what measures are being used in other industries that could assist with compliance efforts in the pet product world in a session by Ron Solomon of MAPP Trap.

Updates from industry partners PIJAC, HABRI, Pets in the Classroom and the Pet Leadership Council highlighted the strength and commitment to the pet care community at all levels.

A retailer panel, moderated by Mark Kalaygian, Publishing Director & Editor in Chief of Pet Business, featured representatives from the industry’s independent retailers on the rise – including Bob Hartzell, Chuck & Dons; Brad Kriser, Kriser’s Natural Pet, AndreAnne Tesene, Two Bostons; and Lars Wulff, Mud Bay - who shared their secrets to growth success with a captivated audience of distributors and manufacturers.

A memorable “goat break” gave attendees the chance to cuddle and play with these lovable creatures during a coffee break, and numerous networking events brought together the business leaders of our ever-evolving industry to discuss industry issues and trends.

Conference hosts APPA, PIDA, PIJAC and WPA thank the conference sponsors who supported this event, including Pet Business (Elite Sponsor), Aktion Associates, Inc, Coastal Pet Products, Mapp Trap, Pet Product News and the Impetus Agency (Signature Sponsors, and Enlighten.net, GES, HABRI, Peel Plastics and Pets+ Magazine (Partner Sponsors)
